Texas Changes Fight Song To "Home For The Holidays"
| Published Dec 7, 2010
“Home for the Holidays,” a song popularized by Perry Como, was officially declared the new fight song for the University seconds before the clocked ticked away at the Big 12 Championship game.
“It’s a true representation of the Texas football spirit this year,” said Brown. “Our fans will no longer have to suffer with the lie that is our old fight song, ‘Texas Fight.’ Because, and let’s be honest here, we didn’t do a whole lot of that this year.”
The coaches announcement was met with universal praise among the University of Texas community.
Quarterback Garrett Gilbert commented, “At the University of Texas, we pride ourselves on being honest. And, for years in the foreseeable future, we really will always be home for the holidays.”
Accompanying the song change was the announcement that the university’s famed “Hook ‘em horns” hand gesture was to be replaced with “thumbs down” motion.
