Royals Fan Unaware MLB Held Playoffs At End Of Every Season

Life-long Kansas City Royals fan Harold Cooper was understandably confused while watching football this past Sunday. During a commercial break, a peculiar ad caught his eye. The commercial was advertising that evening’s game four of the World Series.

“I was just so confused,” Cooper said. “Baseball was never played this late in October, and I knew that the Little League World Series had already happened earlier in the summer.”

Cooper, 23, was born after the last time the Royals made the playoffs in 1985. Cheering for a team that not only never made the playoffs during his life, but also was never really involved in a pennant race, had resulted in his complete ignorance towards the MLB playoffs. This lack of knowledge is apparently not limited to Cooper. According to Cooper, none of his fellow Royals-fan friends had any idea that the MLB playoffs existed.

While reading about the playoffs on Wikipedia, Cooper remarked, “Why the hell do we keep selling off all our good players if there actually are playoffs we could be competing for?”

When asked how he thought the MLB season ended, he replied that he had just assumed that every player on every team was awarded a little trophy at the end-of-season banquet.

“That’s how they did it when I played baseball in 5th grade,” Cooper said. He then excused himself from the interview upon learning that every team in baseball, except the Royals and Nationals, had made the playoffs during his lifetime.
