A Major League Baseball player, lauded earlier this year for a game-winning base hit, is now being condemned for a non game-winning wife hit.

The man, who routinely hits a quickly moving five ounce ball with a wooden club, was arrested for using the same club to hit a slower-moving 135 pound target.

In both cases, the man claimed to have used the bat in self defense. The small leather object, he claimed, was hurtling toward him at upwards of 85 miles per hour. The larger target had allegedly hurled a small, circular object with embedded diamond at him, along with accusations of infidelity. In both cases, the hit objects were unable to give verbal statements.

The man is being held without bail until MLB commissioner Bud Selig gathers the courage to talk to him.
