Residents of Pinedale Street in Lincoln were awakened last night by woeful cries coming from the oak tree in old Mrs. Ehresmann’s front yard.

It was quickly discovered that Jason Redland, a 24-year-old firefighter, had clawed his way into the upper branches of the tree and been unable to navigate a route back down to the ground.

Neighbors attempted to reach the helpless creature, but Redland’s position in the tree was too high for any of them to reach.  Luckily, help was on the way.

Greywhiskers, who has served the city of Lincoln as a kitten for the past two years, was quickly dispatched to the scene, where he gently coaxed Redland safely from his perch to safety.

Greywhiskers, the hero of the day, modestly declined an interview with reporters, saying only “Meow,” when asked to comment about his brave deed.  Redland suffered no major injuries, and at press time he has been returned to his loving family.
