Jimmy Eat World "Invented" | Album Review
| Published Oct 5, 2010
'Invented', Jimmy Eat World’s seventh love child, is a fusion of everything Jimmy Eat World. This album marks the return of producer Mark Trombino, who worked on previous J.E.W. efforts 'Static Prevails', 'Clarity', and 'Bleed American'. Jimmy’s original lead singer Tom Linton also drops by for his first work with the band in over a decade.
'Invented' is both back to basics and maturation of sound and song for the platinum-selling rockers. With elements of songwriting that date as far back as 'Clarity', a guitar wall-of-sound characteristic of 'Bleed American', the depth of 'Futures', and the overall sound and production of 'Chase This Light', 'Invented' is not just recommended, it is an essential addition to any Jimmy Eat World fan’s collection.
True, the new album probably won’t snare many newcomers for Jimmy, but I think it is meant that way. It’s almost like an inside joke; the songs are for those who have been there since the beginning, not just any-ol'-body.
I would rather see Jimmy Eat World make music for themselves then to take a cue from contemporaries like Weezer and crank out the ironic radio-punk/product-placement anthems once a year, every year.
Pick 'Invented' up, you won’t regret it.
