Missy Taylor had been looking forward to date night with her husband, Travis, all week long. But what was supposed to be a fun night out, instead became a tense 45 minutes at Applebee’s. Missy is quick to blame the ruined night on her husband’s “bad attitude.”

“I was really excited for our night together,” Missy said. “I was even going to let him order a New York strip, and we all know how good Applebee’s steaks are.” The evening was set to include dinner, line dancing, a movie from Blockbuster and, possibly, anal sex.

“It was so supposed to be a special night,” Missy said.

Missy confirms that Travis was inattentive. He spent most of the time at Applebee's nursing a vodka and Diet Coke, while sort of watching a Detroit Tigers game on the television behind her. Once their one-sided conversation deviated away from where Trace Adkins's “Dreamin’ Out Loud” ranks among the all-time great albums, Travis responses quickly turned to one-word answers. It was at this point that Missy reportedly “almost lost her shit.”

“I saw the whole thing,” said Margo Belmont, who was at Applebee’s last Friday evening. “She asked him how his next week of work was going to be and all he said was ‘busy.’ Before I even knew what was going on, there was onion petal sauce all over the floor, and she was storming out of the place.” Waiters were quick to clean up the mess.

Travis, an employee at Lincoln Children’s Zoo, is adamant that he wasn’t trying to be outwardly rude. He is, however, quick to point out that he believes Missy didn’t put forth her best effort during the date.

“I was looking my best, you understand,” Travis said. “I mean I was looking like an older Dale Jr. Would it have killed her to put on some green eye shadow? And I don’t want to say she has put on a little weight, but she is pretty fat.”

Travis does admit that he could have been more involved in the date. It had been a stressful week for the Lincoln native, and in the past, his wife has proven to be an effective target for all that pent up frustration. A romantic evening together was not the ideal remedy.

“I’m a zookeeper, OK? The last thing I want to do on my night off is parade around downtown Lincoln with a tame warthog,” Travis said.

Missy knows that it won’t take long for things to blow over. She knows that deep down, her husband can still put up with her and, on some days, possibly even hold a conversation about the electric bill. But that doesn’t keep her from dreaming about what the future might hold for the couple.

“Things will get back to normal soon enough,” she said. “Besides, we’re both smokers, so we shouldn’t have to put up with each other for that much longer.”
