Ten-year-old Devin Schafer spent Sunday night in shame.

That was the night Schafer’s poor-ass parents sent their son to the alley he sleeps in without dinner. The boy’s father, Tom Schafer, 42, said his son had been “mouthing off.”

When questioned further about the punishment, the boy’s mother, Maggie Schafer, 39, defended the decision. “He was mouthin’ off,” she said. “Tryin’ to sit down to a nice meal outside Misty’s and (Devin) asks if we poor.”

The decision caused confusion for the 10-year-old, as Sunday marked the sixth night in as many days the boy has walked down 13th Street in downtown Lincoln, turned into the alley between P and Q, curled up next to the dumpster and attempted to quiet his rumbling stomach.

“I think they were trying to punish me for something,” Schafer said, “but I never eat dinner anyway, so I don’t really get it.”
