Greg Laswell | Concert Review

The one thing people don’t consider when they talk about how file-sharing “is destroying the music industry” - is that musicians like Greg Laswell couldn’t exist without it. Your relationship with him evolves from a friend handing you one of his songs, to the most intimate bond a fan and musician can share. The music industry underestimates the power of what one man and his guitar can do. With Bon Iver’s soul, Ray LaMontagne’s heart, and a voice more powerful than any of his contemporaries, Laswell’s stunning ability to underscore life’s most pivotal moments is nothing short of magical.

Even if you think you don’t know Greg Laswell, you are most likely familiar with his music. His songs have permeated every genre of television, from multiple spots on Grey’s Anatomy, House M.D., True Blood, and Friday Night Lights, combined with films like The Final Destination and Confessions of a Shopaholic - Laswell’s abilities are being noticed - and spreading like wildfire. His talent as a songwriter, lyricist, engineer, and producer and musician is undeniable. More than just a performer, Greg Laswell is an honest human being, true to himself and to his fans.

Rarely do you find musicians with actual talent - not playing a guitar with your teeth talent - but raw, true talent. Every fabric of Laswell’s music is perfectly made-to-fit. All the little elements of his music work together and build and swell just as Greg wants, like a master conductor demanding (and delivering) excellence.

Standing before Greg, I feel comfortable calling him ‘Greg’, you can feel your stress melt away. A handsome, charming man, seen more often than not in a fedora and scruffy beard - he bantered and joked with the audience. Truly a genuine and funny guy at heart. A musician that is not a slave to his music, but works with his music to develop a masterful, blissful, and unique final product.

come on friends get up now, you’re not alone at all”
