This is a personal thanks to all of you in the UNL student body. Well, 71% of14% of you, actually. So, I guess this is a personal thanks for, like, 9% of you. The rest of you can suck it or stop reading or something.

So, to the somewhere around 1,980 of you that voted to approve the DailyER’s student fees on March 9: thank you. From the bottom of my own heart, and from my whole staff, I appreciate you letting me keep my job. I don’t know what I would do if I had an entire weekend free, or 15 hours of each week with which I could do whatever I please.

I don’t know the specific reasons you may have voted for us. Maybe you got confused and thought the Daily Nebraskan was listed twice. Maybe you voted for it because the website said we were getting 0.15 cents, and, hey, college is expensive. Quite possibly, our request for funds somewhat-accidentally piggy-backed on the DN’s massive campaign for its own student fees. Or maybe, just maybe, you use this publication for more than chinchilla bedding and actually don’t mind paying $0.30 for 14 issues. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

But you know what, your reasons don’t matter. What matters is that here I am, and here you are, and here we are together, looking at this same page that’s talking about this publication and now this article. Things are getting very meta around here.

I guess the point is that you’re out there somewhere, and you read this paper. I don’t even read this paper, but I’m glad you do.

So thank you again. I’ll keep trying, and I’ll keep trying to make my staff keep trying, as long as you keep reading. And since you’re the one paying for the paper, if you have problems, concerns or suggestions, or just want to send an e-mail: contact me. I’d love to hear from you.

It’s good to know that we have 1900 friends -- that special 9% of campus. But, hey, 14% voter turnout is good, right?
