Due Date - Film Review

I recently watched Zack Galifinakas in a movie titled “It’s Kind of a Funny Story” I mention this here, not because the movie was worth seeing, but because it’s the first time I’d seen Galifinakas be something other than Allen from ‘The Hangover.’ It was refreshing and showed that he does actually have some acting chops. He does not, unfortunately, show those talents off in his latest film, ‘Due Date.’

Written and Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), the film plays out like a spin-off of Allen’s character, and I think it would have been a lot better had they played that angle. They don’t and the movie ends up playing out like a less well done version of The Hangover, with the same unrealistic hi-jinks and the same emphasis on allowing Galifinakas’ character to really teach these more sophisticated men lessons (does that aggravate anyone else?)

The movie isn’t without its great moments though. Everything to do with the dad’s ashes was really funny, and the insane car chase scene at the Mexican border was incredibly funny and thrilling.

In the end though, you just don’t feel the same satisfaction you feel after seeing The Hangover. Maybe it’s because it’s expected this time, probably, and the fact that it just wasn’t as funny.

Overall, there’s definitely worse ways to waste 7 bucks and 2 hours of your time, but you may just want to stay home and watch the original instead.
