Azure Ray | Album Review
Story by Dylan Bliss
| Published Sep 23, 2010

About ten years ago, a duo of angelic dream-pop vixens made their way to Omaha from Athens, Georgia just in time for Saddle Creek Records to really fall into stride. With a layered sound filled with strings, sleepy beats, and harmonies that would make Imogean Heap crane her neck, Azure Ray became a welcome addition to the scene. However, it has been six years since their last album, and their music hasn’t budged for the times.

Upon your first listen of “Drawing Down the Moon”, you’ll know right away whether you want to continue with the hour-long investment. Prevailing fans of Azure Ray will be heartily pleased to have yet another album to accompany their prolonged sessions of aural relaxation. Peace, not sadness; the ladies’ lyrics sparkle with positivity no matter the message. It feels as though they’re continuously whispering something sweet into ear admist a persistant plea of heartbreak sighs. Continue on through until the end and you’ll find much more of the same.

If you’re in search of a band that represents variety and growth, look further. This album, in itself, is beautiful in its arrangement and style, but brings absolutely nothing to the table for hipsters trying to make a streak with their music buddies. Enjoy it if you can, I did.
